“P4U”

January 31, 2012 Leave a comment

In today’s culture, abbreviations have become commonplace – much to the chagrin of older adults and teachers.

As you see in my previous post, I have been sending a daily text each morning to most of the youth. Lately at the end of the text message I will add “P4U”. That simply means, “prayed for you”, or “praying for you”.

Have you prayed for someone today? You can let them know by sending a simple text of “P4U”.

Let us continue to lift one another up in prayer and encourage one another.

The “NEW” Daily Text Message

January 12, 2012 Leave a comment

This past Sunday night as I talked with some of the youth at the end of the weekly youth meeting, some shared how I didn’t text them that much. I inquired if they wanted me to send them a text each day and what time they began their school day (so I’m not texting them while they are in class).

This week, I began sending a daily text message to some of the youth to help them begin their day focused on God. The messages so far have referenced Scripture, current events, showing God’s Love to others, looking for God’s involvement in their daily life, seeking God’s peace, etc…. and that was just the first 4 days!!!!

So, are you wondering what text messages were sent this week? I’ll list them below. Remember that this is a work in progress. If you are not receiving the text messages and would like to, let Pastor Bill know.

Here are the text messages from this week:

Monday:
With Denver winning in an amazing fashion, people will be talking about “Tebowing” today. Don’t worship him, but the one he follows. Paul wrote in 1 Cor 11:1…… “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ”. I think Tebow would say the same. What kind of example will you set today?

Tuesday:
1 John 3:18 (paraphrased) “don’t just say you love people, show it by your actions” …. Reach out to someone today and show God’s love to them.

Wednesday:
Is God really a part of your life? Look for specific ways He is working in your life today, then share what He did with someone.

Thursday:
Things in this life frustrate us. Family, friends, school, church, etc. God gives a peace that passes understanding. Seek His peace today.

Candy Cane “Protest”

December 22, 2011 Leave a comment

Well, it finally happened. The youth “revolted” and wrote me a “nasty” note a few Sundays ago. See, for the Christmas season, I have table decorations which include candy canes and holly in a glass vase. Here is a picture of the table decor.
.

A nice arrangement with the perfect number of candy canes in each display, 7. A holly branch coming out the top and glass “stones” in the bottom add to beauty of the centerpiece for each table.

As you can see, the candy canes are prominent in the display. Now we all know and understand youth. They have their growth spurts and consequently they at times like to eat everything in sight and so seeing the candy canes on a regular basis, but not being able to enjoy their peppermint flavor apparently proved to be too much for some. It seems the youth began to salivate like Pavlov’s dog whenever they were there and saw the table decor.

.
Consequently…… the youth “snapped” and left the following note for me….
(Note, the bottom of the note reads, “Sincerely, The Youth Group and others – P.S. Nobody had [better] remove this!” )

I did 🙂

.

.

I snickered when I saw this because I knew the candy canes would be a “temptation” for the youth and children. I had fun with it at the youth Christmas party the following Friday evening. It’s great to be able to build relationships with youth where we can have fun with one another.

I wonder what will be next 😀

2011 Christmas Party Highlights

December 17, 2011 Leave a comment

Well, the youth Christmas party has come and gone. It was a great time of fellowship as we shared different traditions we do in our homes and what our families do to remember that it is the day to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

We then opened up presents and afterword had a rousing game of musical chairs. Here are some pictures from the night:

Yes, it looks like home after the gifts are opened 🙂

Then is was a fast game of musical chairs…

Until we had a winner….

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

and we are looking forward to a great new year!
